Laiza is an offline-first ebook and fanfiction reader for Android. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your information.
Laiza has no account, no server and no analytics. Your library, reading position, highlights and notes are stored only on your device. We cannot see them, because they are never sent anywhere. The one exception is advertising, described below.
All of it:
None of this is transmitted. There is no sign-in and no cloud sync. If you uninstall the app, this data is deleted with it.
Backups are files you create and control. Laiza writes a backup only when you ask it to, to a location you choose. It is never uploaded.
When you download a work, Laiza requests it from that site — currently Archive of Our Own and FanFiction.net. Those requests contain the work’s address and identify the app by name. They do not contain your library, your reading history, or any identifier we created. Laiza does not sign you in to those sites, and what they log is governed by their own privacy policies.
Laiza shows banner ads on a small number of screens using Google AdMob. The Google Mobile Ads SDK collects your device’s advertising ID and technical device information in order to serve and measure ads. This is the only personal data any part of Laiza collects, and it is collected by Google rather than by us — we receive only aggregate earnings figures and never see individual users.
Where the law requires it, Laiza asks for your consent before requesting a personalised ad. If consent is unavailable or declined, no ad is requested at all.
Ads are never shown while you are reading, and never against a work rated Explicit.
You can reset or delete your advertising ID at any time in Settings → Privacy → Ads on your device. Google’s own handling is described at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Internet, network state | Downloading works and requesting ads |
| Notifications | Telling you a followed work gained a chapter |
| Foreground service, wake lock | Reading aloud while the screen is off |
| Biometric / fingerprint | Unlocking hidden shelves. Handled by Android; Laiza never sees your fingerprint |
| Advertising ID | Used by Google AdMob, as described above |
Laiza does not request broad storage access. Files are chosen through Android’s own document picker, which grants access only to what you select.
Laiza is not directed at children. Fanfiction archives host adult material, and the app is rated accordingly. A content filter honouring each work’s own rating is available in the app’s settings.
Material changes will be reflected here with a new date at the top. The current version is always at the URL published in the Google Play listing.
